Justin is a Senior Consulting Engineer with experience in the full spectrum of software development and operations. His work covers a variety of flexible and rigid Agile development environments from software startups to large manufacturing companies.

Low-level design and memory management fascinated him and became a focus of his education in Computer Engineering. He began work as a software engineer in firmware integration testing and later tool development in C#. After working with Perl and PHP in a web environment, database systems seemed a natural progression and he added schema design and query optimization to his development responsibilities. This prompted a move into Linux administration too.

He has worked with a wide variety of databases like Oracle and MySQL, and several NoSQL datastores. While his database work started with Oracle, he began his in-depth database knowledge with MySQL, now an expert having worked extensively with optimization and having written server plugins/UDFs. His exposure to MongoDB began with a production deployment about six years ago. The storage layer and rich functionality interested him so he moved his team towards the (then) new technology and has been using it ever since.

Additionally, Justin has been a source code contributor to several popular tools and technologies, most notably: mtools, PHP, CakePHP, rsyslog, Dovecot, and DMOZ.
