At KazooHR, as our larger customer base increased, we ran into issues with large reports taking a long time and or consuming large amounts of memory.
To solve this issue, we constructed reports inside the aggregation pipeline and then utilized NodeJS streams to consume the aggregation and stream all data into a file.
